Nonprofit Accounting and Financial Reporting Overview

Accounting On-Demand

TIAA

This program is presented with generous support from TIAA.

Nonprofit Accounting and Financial Reporting Overview is a self-paced online course designed for business office professionals as well as administrators and trustees with financial oversight of an independent school to acclimate their existing knowledge of finance and accounting to a nonprofit, independent school setting. Despite prior professional experience in most cases, usually in a for-profit setting, many independent school business officers, controllers and finance staff come into their roles with little to no prior knowledge of the nuances of not-for-profit accounting and finance structures and regulations impacting independent schools. Similarly, those charged with fiduciary oversight of independent schools as heads of school or members of boards of trustees may not have prior, in-depth experience with nonprofit financial statements or reporting environments.

NBOA partnered with independent school experts from RSM US LLP, an audit, tax and consulting firm – one of the largest in the US, and part of a global conglomerate – to develop this course and two to follow in what will become a series for business office professionals to do a deeper dive into independent school accounting and finance concepts. This initial program offering is also intended to support heads of school and board members – particularly those serving on finance or audit committees of boards of trustees – who need to regularly review, understand and approve independent school financial statements.
